Will Smith in an Indian movie? It could actually happen.
The Hollywood star is reportedly being approached for a role in Atlee’s upcoming sci-fi action fantasy Raaka, which stars Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles.
And Smith would not just be making a quick appearance. According to current reports, he is being considered to play the antagonist.
Nothing has been officially announced yet, so for now, Smith’s potential involvement should be treated as a rumor. But if the deal does come together, it would mark Will Smith’s first Indian film.
The reports suggest the team behind Raaka is serious about making it happen, too.
Smith has reportedly been approached for the project, with the production said to be willing to film internationally based around his schedule. It is also being reported that costumes have already been prepared for him and that the crew has been told to be ready for the movie’s next filming schedule.
Again, until Smith or the filmmakers officially confirm his involvement, none of that guarantees he will actually appear in the movie.
But the possibility is certainly exciting.
What Is Raaka?
Raaka is an upcoming sci-fi action fantasy from Atlee, the director behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan.
This time, Atlee is working with Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone, with the potential addition of Smith making the project an even bigger international collaboration.
There has also been another major name linked to the movie: Shah Rukh Khan.
Rumors had suggested that Khan could make a cameo in Raaka, a possibility that made some sense considering his previous collaboration with Atlee on Jawan. He is also currently working with Padukone on King.
However, sources have reportedly indicated that the Shah Rukh Khan cameo rumor is not true.
That may be disappointing for anyone hoping for another Atlee-SRK collaboration, but there is still the possibility of another huge addition to the cast.
If Will Smith does sign on, seeing him take on the antagonist role opposite Allu Arjun would be a major crossover moment, and a pretty memorable way for Smith to make his Indian cinema debut.
For now, though, we will have to wait for an official announcement to see if the rumor becomes reality.
