The Ramayana trailer is officially here! And from the trailer, the looks so grand.
After waiting so long to see more from the film, it’s exciting to finally get a bigger glimpse at this version of the Ramayana and see the story being brought to the screen on such a massive scale.
Of course, one of the biggest questions surrounding the film is how Ranbir Kapoor will take on the role of Ram.
Ranbir has spoken about spending two years preparing for the role. During interviews at San Diego Comic-Con, he discussed reading different scriptures, speaking with scholars, meeting with gurus and practicing yoga as part of his preparation.
That is certainly a lot of work to put into a character, but ultimately, we’ll have to wait until the full movie arrives to see how that preparation translates on screen.
Yash as Ravana Stands Out
For me, the person who impressed me the most in this trailer was Yash.
The trailer literally opens with him as Ravana, and right away, it feels like this movie intends to spend significant time telling Ravana’s story as well.
Yash even described Ravana as the “OG villain” while speaking at San Diego Comic-Con and said that this is also Ravana’s story being told. Based on the trailer, we can already see some of that coming through.
It will definitely be interesting to see exactly how the film approaches his side of the story.
And visually? The cinematography in Yash’s scenes looks spectacular.
Sai Pallavi Looks Gorgeous But Where Is Hanuman?
Sai Pallavi is looking gorgeous as Sita.
I will say, though, there were a few scenes where I thought she had a little too much blush on, so I’m not quite sure what was happening there! Otherwise, she looked great.
One person I was definitely missing from the trailer, however, was Hanuman.
Where was Hanuman?!
I’m hoping we get a second trailer before the movie arrives and finally get to see him.
The VFX Look Great, But I Wanted More Music
Overall, I thought the VFX and CGI by DNEG looked really good.
The visual style doesn't necessarily look completely realistic, but that seems like it could simply be an artistic choice.
One thing I was hoping for, though, was more music.
With A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer working on the score for Ramayana, there is obviously a lot of excitement around hearing what they have created. This trailer felt like the perfect opportunity to give us a little taste of something new. Instead, the music we hear is material that has already been released.
Still, my biggest takeaway from the Ramayana trailer is just how impressive the movie looks visually, particularly the cinematography surrounding Yash and Ravana.
We’ve been waiting for this movie for a long time, and it’s exciting to finally get even a little more of what’s to come.
