Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming Hollywood movie Reset is going through a major change just before production. Orlando Bloom has reportedly exited the project.
Bloom was set to star opposite Chopra in the survival thriller and was also attached as an executive producer, making his sudden departure particularly surprising.
According to TMZ, Bloom had remained involved with Reset throughout the pre-production process but reportedly walked away shortly before cameras were expected to start rolling.
At this point, the reason for his departure remains unclear.
The news is also unexpected considering Chopra and Bloom have reportedly known each other for years and had previously discussed wanting to find an opportunity to work together. Reset was finally going to give them that chance.
Now, the production is reportedly searching for a new male lead.
What Is Reset About?
Reset is an independent survival thriller centered on a woman, played by Chopra, who wakes up deep in the wilderness with no memory of how she got there.
Far from civilization, she is forced to rely on a mysterious and charming stranger to survive, but she cannot be sure that he is actually who he claims to be.
Bloom had been set to play that stranger.
The dynamic between the two characters was expected to be an important part of the movie. Filmmaker Matt Smukler had previously discussed wanting two actors who could balance the tension and desire within the story, with Chopra and Bloom originally chosen for those roles.
Who Will Replace Orlando Bloom?
The production team is reportedly already searching for Bloom’s replacement, with three potential actors under consideration.
Chopra, who is also a producer on Reset, is expected to have significant input in deciding who takes over the role.
Bloom’s departure could present a larger challenge for the independent production as well. His involvement alongside Chopra was reportedly an important part of the strategy for securing financing and international distribution, making the last-minute casting change more complicated than simply finding another actor.
For now, though, the biggest question remains unanswered: Why did Orlando Bloom leave the movie so close to filming?
With a replacement reportedly already being considered, Reset could still move forward with a completely different dynamic between its two leads.
And while it is disappointing that the long-awaited Chopra-Bloom collaboration is no longer happening, the search for a new co-star could bring an unexpected pairing to the thriller instead.
