August 2026 is shaping up to be a busy month for Bollywood and South Asian entertainment, with new movies and series arriving in theaters and on streaming platforms.
From major sequels to Partition-era dramas and one of the year’s biggest South Indian releases, here are some titles to have on your radar this month.
August 7
Operation Safed Sagar
Coming to Netflix, Operation Safed Sagar is a new miniseries centered around the 1999 Kargil War, with the story focusing specifically on the Indian Air Force.
Ohh My Dog
Also arriving August 7 is Ohh My Dog, a family drama directed by OMG 2 filmmaker Amit Rai and starring Pankaj Tripathi.
One particularly adorable detail? The movie features more than 250 dogs. The story explores the relationship between humans and stray dogs, mixing lighthearted moments with more serious social themes.
Main Vaapas Aunga
Netflix will also release Main Vaapas Aunga, featuring Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari and Vedang Raina.
The romantic drama connects its love story to the 1947 Partition, following an elderly man looking back on a romance from his youth and the grandson who tries to help bring him closure.
Super Troopers 3
This one isn't Bollywood, but it gets a special South Asian mention thanks to Hannah Simone. Super Troopers 3 arrives in theaters August 7, with Jay Chandrasekhar directing.
August 13
The Traitors India Season 2
Karan Johar returns as host for Season 2 of The Traitors India on Prime Video India.
Unfortunately for international fans hoping to join the drama, the new season will only be available in India.
August 14
Batwara 1947
One of the month's major theatrical releases is Batwara 1947, a period drama starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi and Karan Deol.
Set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition and division of Punjab, the movie follows a family that travels to Pakistan after Partition.
Awarapan 2
Also hitting theaters August 14 is Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2.
The action thriller is a sequel to the 2007 film Awarapan and also stars Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi.
Cocktail 2
If you're looking for something lighter, Cocktail 2 arrives on Netflix the same day.
The romantic comedy is a spiritual sequel to 2012's Cocktail and stars Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon. The story follows a couple whose relationship is shaken when an old friend re-enters their lives.
August 16
Lanterns
Another Hollywood special mention goes to Lanterns, the DC series arriving on HBO Max and featuring Poorna Jagannathan.
August 26
Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups
Finally, one of the biggest Indian releases of the month arrives August 26.
Yash and Kiara Advani lead Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, a gangster film shot simultaneously in Kannada and English. The cast also includes Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria.
With Bollywood, streaming releases, South Indian cinema and a few Hollywood projects featuring South Asian talent all on the calendar, August has plenty to keep entertainment fans busy.
